Deborah feels it is important to continue exploring and experimenting. "Being in unfamiliar territory opens the gate to discovery of new creative avenues. I believe art, whether it is the visual, music, dance or written word, expands the human experience. It connects us to the universe and our place in it."

Deborah St. Clair paints using may different mediums – oil being her favorite. She loves to paint in plain air (on location, in the open).

While some paintings are finished on location, others are taken back to the studio. “Nature is chaos and at times overwhelming.” Sometimes, a quieter environment is needed. The studio is also where she enjoys the solitude in which to paint the still life.

Exploring different mediums and techniques keeps the artist alert and paying attention. Being in unfamiliar territory opens the gate to the discovery of new creative avenues. Painting from an idea or an intuitive imagery instead of a visual reality is a challenging avenue to self-discovery, a means to stretch and grow artistically as well as personally.
