St. John, U.S. Virgin Islands has been her home since 1978. Deborah has exhibited regularly in the Caribbean and has won numerous awards. She recently had the honor of participating in a juried exhibition at the famed Museo de las Americas. Puerto Rico.

The oil paintings of Deborah St. CIair reflect her sensitive, romantic outlook on life. The objects in her still life compositions are meticulously arranged to dance the eye through highlights and shadows, patterns and reflections, rich hues, and sensually draped cloth. Reminiscent of the "Old Masters", St. Clair devotes critical attention to detail and shows particular enthusiasm for rich chiaroscuro drama. She transforms mundane objects into little vigneffes of time and space that allow the viewer an intimate, happy, or thoughtful experience. Her colorful florals are cheerful and dynamic, emitting a feeling of joyous spontaneity.

Deborah feels it is important to continue exploring and experimenting. "Being in unfamiliar territory opens the gate to discovery of new creative avenues. I believe art, whether it is the visual, music, dance or written word, expands the human experience. It connects us to the universe and our place in it."
